Fordite is a unique product with a unique name and origin.

Fordite is a product of the U.S. automobile manufacturers assembly process where the cars were processed through a paint spraying facility.  The over-spray resulted in layers of dried paint along the walls and other areas resulting in periodic maintenance to remove the caked-on dried paint.  The name fordite was given as the first samples were from the Ford assembly plants but the product has been obtained from other manufacturers.

This product is becoming more difficult to find due to the auto plants developing more environmentally-friendly painting processes.  Pieces large enough for an entire pen are highly sought after but we find mostly smaller chips which are cast in acrylic to use the material as well as possible.
